Cleaning is at the top of almost every person’s mind right now – whether that be cleaning your surfaces, cleaning your hands or even cleaning your jewelry. People have reevaluated how they were cleaning items previously and have adjusted to or are currently looking for easily obtainable solutions. That’s where branded product comes in hand. Enter your jewelry store(s) – your customers go-to for buying beautiful jewelry pieces AND their jewelry care products.
Hopefully, my experience will help you understand your customers’ needs for jewelry cleaning both in a time where cleaning is heightened and as an addition to their daily routines.
In the past, I was someone who never really thought about cleaning my jewelry. Some of the pieces I own have never been cleaned before so it was almost satisfying to watch my jewelry transform in minutes. I was honestly amazed with how much dirt and grime came off of the pieces. And the best part? The cleaning process is easier to understand than skincare (and let’s be honest – cheaper too)! I really liked pairing the liquid cleaners with the polishing cloths. Explaining it like this to my friends was the best way to approach integrating in a jewelry cleaning routine.
One of my favorite things about the liquid cleaners is the little brush that comes with it. The brush is specifically made to be gentle on jewelry while cleaning, without having to apply much pressure. In this instance specifically, I was using an 8 oz frosted luxury jar, which was better for my bigger necklace pieces. Kingswood offers different jar styles and sizes to meet your brand look and feel while meeting your customers’ needs.
“Hmm, I wonder what other items I can clean using the product lines that The Kingswood Company offers” is the first thought that came in my head once I cleaned all my jewelry multiple times (at this point it’s not getting much dirtier since I’m not wearing it out and about as much right now). I went into my closet and grabbed one of my purses that has a detachable metal strap. TALK. ABOUT. DIRTY. I used a Jewelry Cleaning Wipe, which was perfect for a strap this long since the wipes are so large. I will say, with how dirty it was and the length/size of the strap, I would have benefited from using the Ultrasonic Machine. So, next time I clean it, it’s going in the ultrasonic machine.
The Sparkle + Shine® Stick has become one of my must have products – especially with how much I’m washing my hands and rings on said hands. The countless pumps of hand sanitizer and soap is not the best for my sterling silver ring – so I keep a Sparkle + Shine stick in my purse too. On-the-go cleaning has never been easier. And with the size of the sticks, I can easily keep multiple in different places without worrying about leaks or taking up too much space in my cabinets. I have one in my bathroom, one in my work purse and another in my regular purse.
I’ve noticed that using my polishing cloths have become almost second nature. Any time I take a piece of jewelry off, I polish it with the cloth. I use in the inside of the cloth to pull off dirt and grime and the outside to buff and shine. Remember how I mentioned I hadn’t cleaned some of my jewelry before? Look at how dirty the inside of my polishing cloth is! A quick in-store demonstration of taking a polishing cloth to a dirty piece of jewelry would be enough to INSTANTLY convert me to purchasing jewelry care products!
Cleaning jewelry that falls into the ‘fine jewelry’ category is possibly one of the easiest things to clean. No agitation needed? Just soak for 2 minutes? Count me in. If I was married or engaged, I would be cleaning my diamond sparkler daily with an easy routine like that. In fact, my friends who are married have told me their jewelry is staying clean and sparkling longer in between professional cleanings.
Cleaning these earrings was awesome – seeing the grime that was on there before, not there just goes to show how little effort is needed to clean a piece of jewelry. I did use the brush to get some really built up areas, but again, little effort needed to make that happen.
Let’s talk the Foaming Jewelry Cleaner. Because this is the perfect cleaner for the person who likes to multitask. On my deep cleaning weekends, I have been also doing deep jewelry cleaning – it keeps me in a good routine. The foaming cleaner is great for these moments because while you wait for the foam to settle, you can do other tasks around the house. I bring out the ultrasonic on these weekends too – cleaning everything I can. My glasses, the purse chain I mentioned earlier, a watch bracelet. Because of my curious nature and the lack of things to do right now due to COVID, I decided to try other items around the house to see what else I could clean.
Pearls used to be one thing I was super nervous about cleaning and would avoid wearing pearls in effort to not dirty them – knowing how fragile they are to begin with. So fast forward to this exercise, and as I thought, cleaning pearls was a very unique experience. I personally used the wipes on them, as I felt it was easier to hold and clean them. One wipe was big enough to clean and entire necklace stand and more. Using a wipe to clean these also made me less nervous overall.
As I navigated the new normal with mandates and masks and adjust to the world of clean, I realized I had been slacking in the cleaning department when it comes to my jewelry. I definitely could have been cleaning my jewelry more prior to the pandemic, but now cleaning my jewelry is almost like second nature to me at this point. In fact, I probably would have saved some of my fashion jewelry pieces if I would have started cleaning them when I got them. I have even turned friends from someone who didn’t think twice about jewelry cleaning into someone who is extremely diligent about cleaning – integrating jewelry and watch cleanings into their daily and weekly routines.
Overall, all it took to get into an easy cleaning routine was just doing it. If someone is under the impression that it’s extremely difficult to clean jewelry or some outlandish process, I’m here to tell them it’s not. Again, I would put it at easier than skin care… the steps are far less and the process is much quicker. Oh, and the results are essentially instantaneous, unlike skin care 😉
